Philco Predicta Project!

My Philco Predicta Project!
December 27th, 2007

My 1959 era Philco Predicta Model H3410 "Princess" in Mahogany!

Just to have kept this relic around through two marriages and divorces and so many life changes.... it's nearly priceless to me.

There's nothing like the sound of the tubes and transformers, the bad switch and tube contacts, the heat from the vacuum tubes, and the SMELL of the burning dust off the tubes and high wattage resitors. How I miss having to whack the side of the set, wiggle the tuner knob, and constantly fiddle with the vertical hold. To remember turning on the set 15 minutes before your favorite program so you had time to "tune in" the set. "The Good Old Days".

I've added photos of my Predicta's actual video. The video playing is of a vintage Philco Predicta "Decorator TV" ad from a DVD I acquired off of eBay.

This is a set that was gifted to me by a friend's family back around 1982. This was that family's set from when it was new around 1959 or so. It was inoperable then, but I restored it to operating condition years ago. Cosmetically, it's in poor shape, but it's still a lot of fun! Someday I hope to get some more vintage looking control knobs for it.

A couple of guys bought the rights to the Predicta name and are hand manufacturing custom Predicta models! Check out their web-site to see some of the crazy things they're doing in the style of the Predicta! I'm seriously considering ordering my own custom made Predicta "Princess"! http://www.predicta.com/index.shtml
